1956 Singer Teena Marie (Mary Christine Brockert) who rose to fame with Motown, born in Santa Monica, CA.
1957 Mark E. Smith of the Fall born.
1958 Andy Gibb, younger brother of the Bee Gees born.
1960 Elvis Presley is discharged from the army.
1963 Country singer Patsy Cline (Virginia Patterson Hensley) is killed in a plane crash in Tennessee. Also killed in the accident are Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins.
1965 David Bowie's early band, The Mannish Boys, release their first single, "I Pity The Fool".
1968 Damon Albarn of Blur born.
1973 Jimi Hendrix's manager Mike Jeffrey is killed in a place crash in France.
1977 Bassist Glen Matlock is kicked out of the Sex Pistols. His replacement is Johnny Rotten's friend John Beverly, better known as Sid Vicious and the guy who can play no known instruments. Also seen listed as a month earlier.
1982 John Belushi, comic genius and embarrassing Blues Brother dies of an overdose.
1985 At 5:30 pm GMT, 5,000 radio stations worldwide broadcast for the first time the single, "We Are the World."
