1944 R&B, soul and rock songwriter, guitarist and singer Bobby Womack born in Cleveland, Ohio. Bobby began singing in the family gospel outfit, The Womack Brothers (who recorded as The Valentinos), before joining Sam Cooke's review. He wrote many of Sam's best sellers, married his widow when he died, and supplied the words and guitar sparkle to the hits of Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Dusty Springfield, Joe Tex, Janis Joplin and many others.

1966 In an article appearing in the London Evening Star, John Lennon stated about the Beatles, "We're more popular than Jesus right now." In the UK, the comment passed without much fuss, but in the US, a Beatle-backlash ensued. Luckily a lot of people, especially in the South, destroyed their recordings pushing their value upwards.
