1943 Paul Atkinson, lead guitarist with the Zombies, born.
1953 Ricky Wilson of the B-52's born.
1955 Derek Longmuir, drummer for the Bay City Rollers, born in Edinburgh.
1957 Elvis Presely buys the mansion Graceland from Mrs. Ruth Brown-Moore.
1959 Terry Hall of the Specials born.
1976 Paul Kossoff, formerly of Free, dies of unknown causes on a plane from London to NY.
1977 The Sex Pistols are dropped by their second record company, A&M, after only nine days on the label. They are given a £75,000 payoff.
1982 Randy Rhoads, the 25-year-old guitarist with Ozzy Osbourne, is killed in a small plane crash in Florida. Out for a bit of fun, he had the pilot buzz the bands tour bus, they came in a tad too low, and skipped off the roof and crashed.
1988 When the Cult announces they're movin' to LA, drummer Les Warner quits.
1990 Mother Love Bone's Andrew Wood who had OD's on smack three days earlier, dies. Parents OK pulling the life support plug at the Seattle hospital while Queen's A Night At The Opera is playing.
1995 At a Pearl Jam concert in Melbourne, 35,000 fans attend a show seating 13,000. In the ensuing tumult dozens are taken to hospital.
