1912 Swing big-band leader Lester Raymond Brown born in Reinerton, PA. Led 'Les Brown and his Band of Renown,' introduced girl singer Doris Day in the 40s, and for decades worked with comedian Bob Hope as he toured the world spreading good cheer and right wing propaganda.
1933 Bandleader, trumpeter, composer and producer Quincy 'Delight' Jones born in Chicago, IL. As a teen 'Q' formed his first band with Ray Charles, joined Lionel Hampton's Band on trumpet in the 50's, became one of the earliest Black executives in a major record label, eventually formed his own Quest label and continues working into the 90s, still trying to add to his record of the most Grammy nominations in history.
1940 Loretta Lynn born in Butcher's Hollow, in greater Van Leer, Kentucky.
