1927 Folk and Calypso-flavored singer Harry Belafonte born in NYC.

1948 Drummer, songwriter and producer Norman Connors born in Philadelphia, PA. While he was with the disco group Aquarian Dream in the mid-'70s, he is best known for his jazz years with Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane.
1952 Sun Records, future home of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins releases their first record: a saxophone recording by Johnny London. It flops.

1969 Jim Morrison of the Doors allegedly exposes himself at a southern Florida concert. After 2 years of legal proceedings, Morrison is sentenced to 8 months' hard labor. While the case was still being appealed, Morrison dies in the summer of 1971.

1995 Only 90 minutes into the set in Lausane, Switzerland, R.E.M drummer Bill Berry leaves the stage with a devastating headache and is rushed to the hospital where two potentially lethal aneurysms are discovered. Successfully operated on two days later, the band postpones the rest of tour.
