1926 Marylin Monroe born in Los Angeles. MM sang in many film, was sewn into her dress for a rendition of "Happy Birthday" for Pres. Kennedy, and became a visual icon for Madonna's "Material Girl."
1934 Charles Eugene Patrick Boone born. Boone's best known for his whitebread cover versions of famous R&B hits like "Ain't That a Shame" and "Tutti Frutti". late in life he surfaced as a joke version of a hard rocker.
1938 Superman launched by Action Comics. The man of steel inspires many songs from a wide range of artists, including the Kinks and Laurie Anderson.
1947 Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood, formerly of the Birds (UK group), the Jeff Beck Group, the Small Faces, and the Faces with Rod Stewart, born in Hillingdon, Middlesex, UK.
