1959   Coral Records releases, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" / "Raining in My Heart.", Buddy Holly's last single to hit the stores before the Texan's plane crash.

"Stagger Lee" goes to #1 on the US pop singles charts. This is the first non R&B single to make it into the segregated Billboard charts by Lloyd Price.

Berry Gordy assumes Detroit's nickname for his new record company and founds Motown.
