Eric Clapton was also infatuated, expressing his love for Boyd in his song "Layla" which he recorded with his group Derek & the Dominos. Patti broke George's heart when she left him to marry Eric in '79.

While the best known version was performed by Tony Orlando, this song was the second most performed song in history behind the Beatles, "Yesterday". It also spouted a country load of yellow ribbons as the theme song for the Iranian Hostage Crisis in America from 1979-81. |
