1958   Elvis reports for duty in the US Army. British Pop-teen idol, Terry Dene, also gets his call-up papers for the British Army.

St. Louis radio station WKWK, after destroying it's entire library of rock recordings, proudly announces that it will no longer play Rock and Roll.

1960   Paul King aka King is born.
1964   Meet the Beatles, a re-worked version of the UK LP, With the Beatles, is released by Capitol in the US, the bands first major label release in the States.
1965   42 year old Alan Freed, early Rock and Roll DJ dies of uremia (booze) in Palm Springs, CA.
1967   The Spencer Davis group releases the single, "I'm A Man", the last to feature both Winwood Brothers.
1968   Tribute to Woody Guthrie at Carnegie Hall draws Dylan out of seclusion. Other performers include; Pete Seeger, Judy Collins, Arlo Guthrie, Odetta, Richie Havens, Ramblin' Jack Elliot. This is his first public performance following a motorcycle accident two years earlier.
1971   Diana Ross marries Robert Silberstein, a public relations executive.
1973   Jerry Lee Lewis makes his belated debut at the Grand Old Opry - but only after he agrees to play only country songs and tone down his language. He fails on both counts to the delight of the audience.
1982   Ozzy Osbourne (John Osbourne) chews the head off a live bat thinking it was plastic. After the show, he is rushed to a Des Moines Hospital for rabies and tetanus shots.
1984   Al Jourgensen of Ministry marries Patty Marsh in Chicago.
1986   Martin Luther King Day observed for the first time in the USA and Stevie Wonder organizes tribute concerts in NYC, Atlanta and Washington, DC.
1987   Billy Vera & The Beaters get their first #1 record with "At This Moment". Billy is Huey Lewis' brother and this is the first #1 charted single from CA Indie label Rhino Records.
1988   Third Annual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction held in New York City. Inductee Mike Love Of The Beach Boys berates other inductees for not working as hard as they do! Other inductees are The Beatles, The Drifters, Bob Dylan, The Supremes, Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Les Paul and Berry Gordy.
1989   Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter born in Louisiana (1889)
1991   Cait O'Riordan (Mrs. Elvis Costello) sues the Pogues for £6000 in back royalties owed her when she performed with the band.

The Cure, when hearing that right-wing youth were using their song, "Killing An Arab" as an anthem, ask radio stations NOT to play the song. They then attach stickers to the LP explaining the songs anti-racist theme.
