1943   Dave Greenslade of Thunderbirds, Colosseum & Greenslade fame is born.
1957   Tom Baily of the Thompson Twins (name taken from the detectives in Tintin, a popular Belgian cartoon character) born in Halifax, UK.
1959   Bob Rosenberg of Will to Power (named after a book by Nietsche) is born.
1962   Jeremy Healey of New-Romantic bands Haysi Fantayzee and E-Zee Possee is born.
1967   Responding to a global "Paul Is Dead" rumor, The National Lampoon, a US humor magazine, declares this to be the official date of the deed.
1969   In the UK courts one-time Beatle Pete Best wins his defamation suit against former bandmates.
1971   In a move to insure the success of Cory Hart & Anne Murray, Canada passes a law requiring that from 6 am - 12 am, 30% of all music aired on the radio has to be Canadian.
1973   The Rolling Stones perform at a concert to benefit for Nicaraguan victims of a recent earthquake, raising over $400,000. A prime mover in organizing the event is Mick mate of the moment, Bianca, who is Nicaraguan.

Pink Floyd begin work on their new LP, Dark Side of the Moon. This album will set an all time record by remaining on the US charts longer than any recording in history, as of 1997 STILL going strong.

1974   Second line supergroup Bad Company formed by Boz Burrel from King Chrimson, Mick Ralphs of Mott The Hoople, and Simon Kirk and Paul Rodgers of Free.
1977   Sure Elvis and Nixon made nice in the Oval Office, but now America has it's first President sympathetic to rock, as Jimmy Carter's televised Inaugural Concert features Linda Ronstadt and Aretha Franklin, and audience members John Lennon and Paul Simon.
1978   The Sex Pistols end their only US tour, a two week affair, in CA. In the afternoon Sid Vicious ODs on barbiturates and booze, and is removed from a London bound plane on the NY runway. Today or tomorrow Johnny Rotten quits the band and the next day tells the press that the band is finished.

The Sex Pistols one and only tour of the US ends at the Winterland Theater in San Francisco. [AMA says earlier]

1980   Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, owners of Studio 54 nightclub receive 3 1/2 year sentences for income tax evasion.

Punk and former porno star Wendy O. Williams of the Plasmatics is arrested in Milwaukee for doing "dirty things" in front of an audience. (simulating masturbation w/ a sledgehammer). Tussle with police results in her getting 12 stitches in the head.

Southern rock specialist Capricorn Records files for Chapter 11 (bankruptcy).

1989   Fourth Annual Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame induction held In New York. "Highlight" is the somewhat confused appearance of legendary recluse Phil Spector. Other Inductees: The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, The Temptations, Dion Dimucci, The Soul Stirrers, The Ink Spots and Bessie Smith.
1990   Mel Appleby of Mel and Kim dies.
1996   Pop royalty match of the century ends this day when Lisa Marie Presley files for divorce from Michael Jackson.
