1917   Record producer Jerry Wexler born. A big part of Atlantic Records success and producer of the first great Aretha Franklin and King Curtis records, he has been virtually written out of the history of Atlantic records and dropped from the 1967 edition of the Rolling Stone Encyclopedia.

1978   During short lived Sex Pistols ill-fated final tour at Dallas' Longhorn Ballroom, a groupie gives Sid Vicious a blow-job on stage.
1981   At New York's Uris Theater, Gilbert and Sullivan's, "The Pirates of Penzance" opens with a novelty twist to attract a younger crowd, pop stars on Broadway. The launch features Linda Ronstadt and Rex Smith, eventually moves to the Minskoff Theater, finally ends after a successful 772 performances, and eventually goes to film.
1983   Tennessee Governor decrees "Elvis Presley Day". On this date in 1956, Elvis began his first recording session for RCA Records.
