1938 Jimmy Carl Black of The Mothers Of Invention born in El Paso, TX.
1948 James Johnson born in Buffalo, N.Y. Johnson is a versitile singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer who was in the Mynah Birds (mid-'60s with Neil Young), the Stone City Band (mid-'70s) and produced many acts for Motown (Teena Marie, Mary Jane Girls, Eddie Murphy). Like all real vetrans did some jail time for assault.
1949 RCA Victor introduces the 7" 45 rpm format. The 'single' is designed to compete with rival microgroove format introduced by Columbia a year earlier, the 33 1/3 LP, both designed to offer better fidelity and greater recording time than the 78. To play the 45, industrial design giant Henry Dryfus designes the first 45 changer in brown bakelight, a device that uses an 'RCA connector' ushering in the era of 'audio components'.
1964 The Beatles "I Want To Hold Your Hand" reaches #1 in the US.

Indiana Governor Matthew Wels demands the song "Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen be banned from the airways due to it's "Obscene" lyrics.

1967 Buick begins to offer eight-track tape players as an option in their autos.
1968 Lisa Marie Presley, the King's only child and sole heir born.
1973 Chris Blackwell announces the start of the Mango Record label, which will focus on reggae releases.
1978 Bob Dylan's mostly documentary film "Renaldo and Clara", featuring footage from the Rolling Thunder Revue tour, premiered in Los Angeles.
1980 Sid Vicious' mom, Ann Beverly is hospitalized after taking a drug overdose. Was it to join her son or avoid the embarrassment of the first anniversary of his death the following day?
1981 Scotty Wiseman of the C&W duo "Lulu Belle and Scotty" dies of a heart attack in Gainsville, FL.
