1943 Singer Bobby Vee born in Fargo, ND. Bob Dylan used to claim that he was Bobby Vee and even auditioned to be his pianist.

1958 Brooklyn born Carole King's first single, "The Right Girl," is released. She will go on to write hits, "Loco-Motion", "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", "One Fine Day" and hundred of others, with a second career later as a performer. She will later marry collaborator Jerry Coffin, and Neil Diamonds, "Oh Carol" was written for her.
1966 Folk singer Richard Farina is killed in a motorcylce accident on his wife's 21st birthday. He was married to Joan Baez's sister Mimi, who was also his singing partner. He was returning from a party celebrating the publishing of his book, "Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up To Me".
